Unlike English where we use the verb to be with being right or not the French language it uses the verb to have. The word for right is “raison”. Thus you would say “avoir raison” or to have reason. Simply put this means to be right. If you used être and said “je suis raison” that would be wrong. This is how it looks with the conjugation of the verb avoir:

j’ai raison = I am right
tu as raison = You are right (to a peer, friend or somebody younger than yourself)
il/elle/on raison = he/she/one is right
nous avons raison = we are right
vous avez raison = you are right (to a group of stranger)
ils/elles ont raison = they are right
