In this lesson you learn how to conjugate he is regular verb avoir (to have) in the present tense in French. Different to English the verb to have is used quite often in French.

When you are using adjectives to describe your feelings, such as I’m cold (j’ai froid) or I’m hungry (j’ai faim) you have to use the verb avoir.

avoir = to have

j’ai
tu as
il/elle/on a
nous avons
vous avez
ils/elles ont
